My name is Nate Matis. I am new athletic trainer at SHHS. Before coming to Salem Hills, I was the athletic trainer at Wasatch High School! My favorite food is steak. My favorite color is red. I was born and raised in Spanish Fork. I played football and rugby at SVU where I met my wife who played softball @ SVU and we have been married for almost 5 years. I also played Rugby at BYU. I graduated with my master's from BYU in April of 2025

James was 7-0 last week at a tournament and duel. Helping the team pick up a valuable team win. He is extremely coachable!
Basketball: Kate Barton
Kate is a great leader on and off the court. She leads the team in assists with almost 5 per game. She also leads the team in 3 pointers on the season!

Salem Hills High School will be hosting a Latino Parent Night on Wednesday, January 28th, from 7:00–9:00 p.m. This evening is designed to help families better understand the tools, resources, and graduation requirements of high school, and to provide guidance on how parents can best support their ML student’s success at SHHS.
The night will also feature performances by the Mt. Nebo and Payson Junior High Mariachi Bands, along with multicultural dancers from SHHS, celebrating our students and community. Conchas and hot chocolate will be available throughout the evening.
We look forward to welcoming you for an informative and culturally enriching night!

Tanner Huff: Tanner has provided great energy and toughness on both ends of the floor for the Skyhawks throughout this season!
Grace Lindsey: Grace has overcome tremendous adversity, showing the true strength and grit every step of the way. Even while injured, she stepped into support her teammates, all while maintaining a positive, uplifting attitude. She is a joy to watch, performing beautifully with confidence and lighting up the floor with her radiant smile!

Meet two of our amazing, seasoned teachers at SHHS: Lori Muir & Scott Haney!
Lori Muir: My name is Lori Muir. I am an English Teacher at SHHS. Before coming to Salem Hills, I taught at Juab High School. My favorite food is mango sticky rice! My favorite color is lavender! My favorite hobby is waterfall hikes! My favorite sport is pickleball! My favorite holiday is Easter. My favorite kind of music is 90's alternative. My husband and I have been married since 1995. We will celebrate our 30th anniversary this year! We have three kids, are about to be empty nesters, so we will have to love on our Cavapoo dog, Archie.
Scott Haney: My name is Scott Haney. I am a PE/Health Teacher at SHHS. Before coming to Salem Hills, I taught at Payson High for 21 years. My favorite food is the Sizzler Salad Bar! My favorite color is blue! My favorite hobbies are golf and spending time with my grandkids. My favorite sports are golf & baseball! My favorite holiday is Christmas. My favorite music is Back in Black by AC/DC. I have taught for 38 years. My wife Pam taught for 34 years. We have 4 kids and 8 Grandkids. I am a big Survivor fan and if I could of done anything in life I would of chosen to be a Country Western Singer or a Stand Up Comedian. Bad thing is that I can't sing and I'm not funny!


Jessie is an exceptional member of the Salem Hills Band program whose versatility and musicianship set her apart. As both our jazz band’s bass player and a dedicated member of the flute section, Jessie consistently demonstrates remarkable adaptability and skill across multiple instruments. Her commitment to excellence is evident in every rehearsal and performance, as she approaches each musical challenge with focus, enthusiasm, and a drive to improve. Jessie’s talent, reliability, and work ethic make her an invaluable part of the ensemble, and her pursuit of excellence continues to elevate those around her.

Ruby Thompson: Debate
Ruby holds herself to high standards. She works hard and is always prepared. She is extremely intelligent and is an example of keeping high expectations while having fun. She is a good teammate and example.
Makayla Carrick: Girls Wrestling
Makayla is a very gifted athlete and she also works extremely hard. She is always trying to improve herself. Makayla lost on Friday but learned from the match and came back on Saturday and beat that same girl in the finals of the tournament!

Gomez is a graduate of the Nebo School District and currently serves as a teacher at Mapleton Junior High. As a young Latino educator, he is an exceptional example of perseverance, achievement, and service. He has received multiple awards, is highly regarded by his students, and continues to make a meaningful impact in his school and community.
In addition to teaching, Gomez is a soccer coach, a well-traveled individual, and a lifelong learner. He holds a master’s degree and is currently working toward his doctorate. His visit left students motivated and encouraged to pursue their goals through education.
